In Conjunction with National Adoption Month Celebration

CCDIOBR Maternity & Adoption Department Honors Mike and Vicki Hoormann

Vicki and Mike Hoormann had been praying to find a ministry in which they could serve together as a couple. Their desire to help the Catholic community fit perfectly with the need of the Maternity and Adoption Department of Catholic Charities who was searching for families to provide temporary care for newborn infants awaiting their permanent adoptive homes.  In May of 2007, they responded to a request for boarding families and from that moment on the Hoormanns became an important part of the Catholic Charities family. Although caring for a newborn is a difficult task, Vicki and Mike believe being a boarding care family is their ministerial calling and they are perfect for the job.

After completing the homestudy process, Vicki and Mike welcomed their first infant into their home in July of 2007. Since that time, they have had sixteen babies in their home. Each time they are called to serve, they lovingly accept this great responsibility. Not only do they build strong bonds with the babies they care for, but they also build relationships with the parents. They welcome the new parents into their hearts, their homes, and their lives.  They serve as a bridge connecting parents to the priceless details of their babies first few days in the world.

The Hoormanns enable Catholic Charities Maternity and Adoption Department to serve birth parents, adoptive parents, and, most importantly, children. We are most grateful to Vicki and Mike for their years of service, sleepless nights and selfless love given to infants in need. Please join us in honoring Mike and Vickie Hoormann.

An Adoption Story

Six years ago, late one Wednesday afternoon, Kim Bertrand received a phone call that would change her life forever. On that day, she and her husband Sterling became parents.
“I was working late. The office was almost deserted,” said Kim. “I immediately called Sterling and told him we had a son, and we could bring him home on Friday.”
“He asked me what Friday I was talking about. Both of us were shocked because we didn’t expect this call to come so quickly.”
