November is National Adoption Awareness Month. According to the Children’s Bureau, there are currently 102,000 children and youth in foster care across the country waiting for adoptive families. According to AdoptUsKids.org, there were 1,088 children and youth waiting for adoptive families in Louisiana in 2012.
Catholic Charities will hold our quarterly “Adoption Matters” class during National Adoption Month as a “bring your brown bag lunch” and is inviting all who are interested in learning more about adoption. This could be folks thinking about adopting, in addition to family members of those who are considering or have already adopted. This free one-hour seminar will be held at Catholic Charities on November 19th from noon-1pm. Click here for more information and to register online, or call our office (225) 336-8708.
The Children’s Bureau has created a very informative website with more information about National Adoption Month. Additional information can be found at AdoptUsKids.org.
